About MateHaus: rooms for rent and share accommodation

What MateHaus is

MateHaus is a website for rooms for rent and share accommodation. It brings together two groups of people: room owners with a spare room to fill, and renters looking for a room and the right people to live with. The name says it: find your people, then your place.

Everything you need to get started is free. Room owners list a room for free, renters create a profile for free, and anyone can message anyone. There is no paywall on messages.

How it works for room owners

• List a room for free. Add photos, the rent, what's included and who you're looking for. If you've already posted the room on Facebook, you can paste the post and MateHaus fills in the form for you.
• Get checked and go live. MateHaus support reviews each new room listing before it goes live.
• Match alerts. When your room goes live, renters with a matching saved search are told about it.
• Set open homes. Add inspection times to your listing, and confirm times with renters in Messages.
• Optional upgrades. Featured, Premium and Boost help a listing get seen. They are optional, and listing stays free.

How it works for renters

• Browse rooms for free. Anyone can browse rooms and renter profiles without an account.
• See your match. Answer five quick lifestyle questions and each room shows a match score based on your answers and the household's.
• Message owners free. Sign up with Google or email, then message any room owner. No paid tier is needed to see or message.
• Create a renter profile. Let room owners find you, with your budget, preferred suburbs and a search radius.
• Book an inspection. Pick an open time or suggest one, and confirm it in Messages with a calendar invite.

Trust and safety

MateHaus is built so you can check people before you move in:

• New room listings are checked by MateHaus support before they go live.
• Members can verify their mobile number with an SMS code, and verified members show a Verified badge.
• Conversations stay in Messages, so you can see who you're talking to and arrange an inspection in one place.
• Support can remove listings and block members who break the rules.

Always inspect a room in person and never pay a bond or rent before you have seen the room and met the people. Read our guide to room rental scams for the warning signs.
